BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT
Born and growing up on the eastern shore of Nova Scotia, I was
introduced at a young age to the art and craft of jewellery. Coming
from a family history full of jewellers and artists, my appreciation
of the art of jewellery making grew early and lead me to pursue
a career as a jeweller and designer.
My jewellery designs originally drew influence from nature and
the organic world that surrounded my childhood, but while attending
the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, I participated in an
exchange study in Birmingham, England, and my work has never been
the same since. The knowledge I gained and the new outlook of jewellery
I acquired have led me to pursue a new method of working and thinking.
While not abandoning traditional jewellery techniques, I use these
techniques in somewhat non-traditional ways and create pieces based
on form and function.
To question the nature of jewellery is extremely important in my
design process and the work that I create reflects that, and tries
to provoke that question to the wearer.
